ILLNESS FATAL TO T. SWANN, INDUSTRIALIST
Founder of Chemical Plant Here Was Resident of Birmingham--
Theododre Swann, 68, widely-known Birmingham industiralist, who in the late twenties and early thirties was owner of Swann Chemical Company in Anniston, died at his home in Birmingham today. Mr Swann, who during his lifetime was often referred to as an "financial wizard," died following a length illness.

Although he never lived in Anniston, he maintained his offices here in the present plant of Monsanto Chemical Company. At that time, the plant was the Swann Chemical Company, which Mr Swann sold to Monsanto in 1935. Mr Swann following a varied career in chemical and engineering industries, founded his Swann Corporation, whose founding and end read like a saga. Many of the men who worked for him in the Swann Checmical Co in Anniston are surrently top officials with the Monsanto Chemical Co. throughout the country where his father was associated with the school.

Mr Swann was born in Dandridge, Tenn. on September 5, 1886, the son of John S. and Senora Williams Swann. He received his secondary education at Maury Academy at Dandridge. He was a student at Carson and Newman College at Jefferson City, Tenn.and Virginia Intermont at Bristol, Va., where his father was associated with the school. He was also a holder of an Honorary Doctor of Science degree.
