Sarah J. Bates, widow of Louis Bates, died at the home of her son, E.S. Bates at Cambridge, Thursday morning, at eleven o'clock. She was sixty-eight years old and had been ill for the past eight months. The deceased was born near Sarahsville, May 8, 1846, and spent most of her life in Noble county until six years ago when she went to Cambridge, where seven of her eight sons had established homes. Louis Bates, the husband of the deceased, was killed in a saw mill explosion near Sarahsville, May 14, 1885. All of her children survive. They are J.B. Bates, L.P., M.L., E.S., E.T., H.E., Dennis Bates, of Cambridge, and E.H. Bates of New Concord. The one daughter, Mrs. P.F. Jerles, resides at New Concord. The deceased is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: William, Martin, Peter and Albert Kirkbride, all of Noble county, and Mrs. D. Vandine, of Renrock; Mrs. Fred Hinchcliffe, of Byesville; Mrs. I.M. Moore and Mrs. Jane Williams, of Cambridge. The deceased had long been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. Short funeral services were held at the home of E.S. Bates, Friday evening at seven o'clock. Saturday morning the remains were brought to the Bates Hill church in Noble county.
