Mary was the eldest of eleven children born to Thomas Gratton "TG" Castor & his first wife, Marilla Lee (Keller).

Mary Elnora was a tiny, petite woman, only about 5 feet tall. She never had her hair cut; when she brushed it out her hair would reach the ground when she was standing.
She was a faithful member of The Methodist Church in Bentonville, AR. Mary married John Wesley Oakes on March 20, 1880, in Bentonville, AR.
Their 6 children:
William Gratton, Charles LeRoy, Marilla "Riley", Emzy Farmer, Sr., Ruth Helene, Anna Maude Oakes

"Services were held at the Calhoun-McKinney Funeral Chapel on Monday, May 12, 1941. The Reverend W.F. Cooley, pastor of the local Methodist church, and Reverend Charles B. Marrs, the pastor of the Presbyterian church of Moutainburg, Arkansas, conducted the service; music was furnished by The Jackson Family Quartet of Dug Hill, AR.
Pallbearers were; Ronald Oakes, Harry Farmer Oakes, Charles Oakes, Zeno Stroud, Lyle Williams and Cleo Boling."
