William Arnott, Pioneer Resident, Dies Saturday

William Arnott, a pioneer logger and farmer in Oneida county, died Saturday at the age of 79 in St. Mary's hospital. He had been ill about a week and a half.

After operating as a logger, Mr. Arnott settled on his farm home on Highway 8 a few miles west of Rhinelander. He had lived in the county 51 years, coming here from Michigan. Mr. Arnott was born in Canada on July 20, 1864. He was married in 1891 to the former Caroline Gorbutt in Michigan.

Surviving are his widow; five sons, Roy, or Tomahawk; George of Pine Lake,; Ernest, of Newbold; Elto of Tomahawk; and Cecil of Rhinelander; and two daughters, Mrs. Maynard Rice, of the state of Washington; and Mrs.Ellis Rice of Rhinelander.

Also surviving are a brother, Charles of Owendale, MI and 22 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 PM in the Carlson funeral home. The Ralph Y. Austin, pastor of the Congregational Church will officiate. The body will lie in state from 10, Wed. morning until the services. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. end.

William was the son of George White Arnott and Agnes Ritchie Arnott. Four sons preceded him in death, Richard, Rollie William, Edwin and Charles and an infant son.
