J. Harl (Kissy) Conkey, 80, of Waynesburg Cameron Star Route (Center Township), died at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 1988, in his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born February 22, 1908, in Graysville, son of Thomas and Jane Workman Conkey, and was a resident of Greene County all his life.

He was a member of South Ten Mile Baptist Church and, at the time of his death, served as deacon.

He worked for Carnegie Natural Gas Co. He was last employed by Center Township, where he worked for 22 years, the last 12 of which he was a supervisor. He retired in 1975. He also was a farmer as long as his health permitted.

He was a 27-year member of Harvey's Grange No. 1444 and at the time of his death served as gatekeeper. He also was a member of Pomona Grange, Pennsylvania State Grange and National Grange Association.

Surviving are his wife, Pearle Breese Conkey, whom he married June 29, 1932; a son, Laverne Conkey of New Philadelphia, Ohio; five daughters, Mrs. James (Clara) Iams of Sycamore R.D.1, Mrs. Wayne (Ferne) Knight of New Freeport R.D.1, Mrs. Vernon (Betty) Scherich of New Philadelphia, Mrs. Roy (Sue) Clutter of Sycamore R.D.1 and Mrs. Phil (Naomi) Lapping of Waynesburg R.D.4; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, James C. (Bill) Conkey of Millersburg, Ohio; and a sister, Mrs. John (Ruth) Kovalcheck of Waynesburg R. D.5.

Deceased are a daughter, Kathryn Jane Conkey; four brothers, Meek, Glenn, Floyd and Paul Conkey; and two sisters, Jean Gazy and Edith Conkey.

CONKEY _ Friends of J. Harl (Kissy) Conkey of Waynesburg Cameron Star Route (Center Township), who died Saturday, March 5, 1988, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Lantz-Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, with the Rev. Kenneth Forbes officiating. Burial in Rosemont Cemetery. Harvey's Grange No. 1444 will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
