Mildred M. (Stoughton) Stafne, 96, of Great Falls, died of natural causes Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Peace Hospice.
Mildred was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mildred was born March 5, 1915, in Watford City, N.D., to William and Mary (Letcher) Stoughton.
She married Reynold Stafne on Dec. 26, 1939, in Watford City. He passed away in October 1995.
Mildred taught elementary school in North Dakota, and was a charter teacher at St. Peter and Paul Catholic School. After receiving her master's degree in special education, she taught at the Montana School for the Deaf and the Blind until her retirement in 1977.
Mildred and Reynold belonged to the Wally Byam Airstream group, and wintered in Arizona. She was a charter member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and a member of Legion of Mary, Altar Society and Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include a son, 3 daughters, a sister, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, with No. 15 due in December, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reynold Stafne; one brother; two sisters and her parents.
