Winifred Dewhirst, 94, Dickinson, died Saturday, June 22, 2013 at St. Benedict's Health Center, Dickinson.

Winifred's Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Shannon Lucht as the celebrant.

Interment will take place at the Schafer Cemetery, Watford City. Visitation will be on Friday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Al Schwindt presiding.

Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Winifred Stoughton was born July 16, 1918, at Watford City, the daughter of William and Mary (Letcher) Stoughton. She was raised and educated in Watford City, having graduated from Watford City High School in 1937.

Winifred married Neil Dewhirst on October 10, 1940 at the Church of the Epiphany, Watford City. They moved to Seattle, Wash. For two years, returning to North Dakota and the Dewhirst family ranch in the Grassy Butte area, where they ranched until retirement in the late 1980's. They would spend the next few summers at McKenzie Bay and the winters in Arizona. Winifred and Neil moved to Dickinson in 1994, still enjoying their summers at the cabin.

She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, and also the Dickinson Community Center where she participated as a member of the Silver Sneakers.

Winifred is survived by her four sons, Larry (Pat) Dewhirst, Phoenix, Ariz., Gary (Deb) Dewhirst, Hettinger, Lynn (Holly) Dewhirst, Grassy Butte, and Loren (Joyce) Dewhirst, Dunn Center; 10 grandchildren, Chad (Jenny) Dewhirst, Janell (Gordon) Miller, Nathan (Becky) Dewhirst, Greg (Kristan) Dewhirst, Brian (Lisa) Dewhirst, James (Loredana) Dewhirst, Jill (Mark) Anderson, Kelly (Rachel) Dewhirst, DeAnn (Matt) Zander, and Kara (Taylor) Bang; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Neil on March 25, 2003; three sisters; and one brother.
