SAMUEL KELLOGG
Funeral services for Samuel Edward Kellogg, 91, Rock Springs, were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with the Rev. Gregory O’Kelly officiating. Burial was in the family plot in the St. Joseph’s section of the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Rogan Chapel.
Mr. Kellogg died Thursday, July 31, at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County, where he had been a patient since July 12.
He was born April 6, 1884 on a Laramie River homestead to John and Martha Garrett Kellogg. He married Hattie Maude O’Donnell on Dec. 10, 1910 in Rock Springs.
He was the founder of the Kellogg Lumber Co. and was still serving as president of the company at the time of his death.
Mr. Kellogg had worked as a payroll clerk for the Union Pacific Coal Co. in Cumberland, Wyo. and was the general contractor on numerous local buildings, including the Rock Springs Junior High, Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and the original Rocket-Miner building. He also did extensive building for the Union Pacific Railroad and the mining camps.
Mr. Kellogg was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie Kellogg; three brothers, Robert, George and Howard; two sisters, Annie Clark and Phronie Iredale and one son, Dorvis Kellogg.
Survivors include two sons, Fred R. Kellogg of Cheyenne and Armand Kellogg of Rock Springs; one half-sister, Mrs. Harry (Ethel) Brittain of Los Angels, Calif.; six grandchildren, Dr. Samuel Garrett Kellogg of Canon City, Nev., Patrick Ross Kellogg of Rock Springs, Armand Ross Kellogg of Federal Way, Wash., Frederic Phillip Kellogg of Baltimore, Md., Laurie Louise Kellogg and Carol Jean Kellogg, both of Rock Springs.
