She was united in marriage to Bernard Ackerson in Cedar Falls, lived there, and was lated divorced. On July 12, 1936, she was married to John R. Secor in Albert Lea, Minnesota. The couple lived in Idaho, and in 1941, returned to Cedar Falls. At the time of John's death on October 8, 1967, they were living in Washburn. Dorothy moved to Waverly where she owned and operated a ceramic shop on West Bremer Avenue.
On April 7, 1968, she was united in marriage to Chris Nienkark in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple made their home in Waverly. Chris died on August 20, 1971, and shortly after that Dorothy made her home with her mother, Sarah C. Huff. In March of 1989, Dorothy was hospitalized in Sartori Hospital, Cedar Falls, underwent cancer surgery, and during the operation, suffered a severe stroke. On April 24, 1989, she became a resident of the Bartels Lutheran Home in Waverly.
She is survived by her four sons, Charles E. Ackerson of Sumner, Keith M. Ackerson of Edinburg, Texas, Robert M. Ackerson of Waterloo, Wayne B. Secor of Leander, Tex; 22 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; her mother, Sarah C. Huff of Waverly; and her first husband, Bernard Ackerson of Mount Gilead, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her father, Eddie Yockstick, her grandson, Michael Ackerson, her second husband, John R. Secor, her third husband, Chris Nienkark, and her brother, Edward Yockstick.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 19, 10:30 a.m. in Waverly with Pastor Robert Holdorf of the United Methodist Church, Shell Rock, officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls. The family suggests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.
