Samuel and Azubah (Bailey) Ward migrated to Fitchville Township, Huron County, Ohio from Oneida County NY. The journey was by river, canal, lake boat and wagon.

Azubah Bailey, wife of Samuel Ward, was born April 15, 1793 the daughter of carpenter, Vine Bailey, b. Nov. 15, 1771 in Groton, CT, and his wife, Patty Woodward, born Aug. 21, 1774 in Preston Twp, Oneida County, NY. Patty's parents were Abisha Woodward, an architect, and Mary Spicer, who were married May 20, 1774 in Preston, CT. Abisha Woodward built the standing New London, CT lighthouse and was also a Revolutionary War Veteran.

He was one of the men who purchased land in northern Ohio for the benefit of widows and orphans of the Revolutionary War. Patty's siblings included Amos, Gordon, and Betsey of Lyme Township and Bellevue, OH. Mary Spicer's parents were American Revolution Captain Oliver Spicer and Alithea Allyn who were married Aug. 15, 1749 in Groton, CT. Azubah's great-great grandfather was Mayflower pilgrim Thomas Rogers.

A daughter of Vine Bailey, she married Samuel Ward on March 11, 1810. They had 13 children: Mary, William, Elizabeth, David, Alpha, Charlotte, Gurdon, James, Martha, Samuel A, Amos, Lucy, & Addie who married Alexander Fox.
