Greta Olson was born in Jerna, Sweden, on April 11, 1853. She passed away at her home in the town of Alma, Jackson County, on April 8th, 1933, making her age 79 years, 11 months and 22 days.
She resided with her parents until September 1st, 1873, when she was united in marriage to S. P. Olson. In the year 1883 they came to the United States and located in Merrillan where they resided for about one year. They then moved on to a small farm just outside of Merrillan, which was known at that time as the Davis farm, about one year later they purchased and moved on to their present farm where they continued their residence except for about one year which was spent in the village of Merillan, several years ago.
Ten children were born of whom three are dead, namely Gertie, Andrew and Ernestine.
Mrs. Olson was a wonderful mother and wife and worked hard to make a nice home for the family.
She was always interested in the many activities about the farm and her home was always a welcome place for her children and friends to visit.
At an early date in her life she was confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran Church and was interested and sincere in her faith.
She had not enjoyed good heath for the past year and her end came Saturday evening after being confined to her bed for three days. She leaves to mourn her loss the husband, Peter, five sons, Ole, of Manawa, Wis., John, George, Oscar and Harold, of Merrillan and two daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Hanchett of Asotin, Wash., and Ellen, of Merrillan, and twenty grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and a host of friends. She has passed on to her reward.
The services were held from the M. E. church Wednesday afternoon, and were conducted by Rev. J. D. Crandall and they were largely attended by many of the old time friends and folks of the village.
Those from away to attend the funeral were Ole Peterson from Manawa, Mr. and Mrs Wilson Lyons, from Waukesha, Mrs. Knutson from Pray, Mr. Roiseland, Mrs. M. Mattson and sister from Black River Falls, and a large number of friends from Garden Valley.
