"Death of Grandma Lee
Mrs. Malinda Lee, better known for many years as "Grandma" Lee, died on Saturday, March 22, 1913, at her home down in the neighborhood now known as Leesburg, but where used to be a town of promise in the early days and which was named or the Lee Family.
Grandma Lee was probably the oldest resident of Stafford county, both as to length of life and also length of residence in the county. The writer knows of none whose age equaled hers, for she was at the time of her death nearly 95, and she had been a resident of the county since 1876.
Malinda V. Vincent was born April 12, 1818 in Madison county, KY., and with her father's family moved to Decatur county, Indiana, in 1834. She was there married to Perry Lee in 1839. To this union was born five sons and two daughters. Two sons and two daughters survive, and all were present at the bedside of their mother when death came to her relief. They are Mrs. Christina J. Mather, Mrs. M.E. Goin, John H. Lee and Robert W. Lee.
With her husband and family she moved to Cedar county, Iowa , in 1854, and in 1876 they moved to Stafford county.(Kansas) where she has been a resident ever since with the exception of a short time spent in Oklahoma. Her husband departed this life in 1887. She was converted and joined the Baptist church at the age of 28, and had since lived a faithful Christian life. She was at the time of her death 94 years, 11 months and 10 days old.
The funeral was held at Leesburg on Monday, conducted by Rev. A.L. Hobbs of Plano. Burial was in the cemetery at Leesburg.
Mrs. Lee had for several years made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Mather, on the farm of her grandson, Perry Mather.
Hers was a ripe old age, and though the many years she enjoyed the highest regard and esteem of all who knew her."
