John H. Barnd passed away at his home in this city on Sunday morning after an illness of about two weeks. A few days before Mr. Barnd was taken ill he sustained an injury to his head by coming in contact with a timber in one of the buildings on his place. Shortly after this accident he began to suffer with severe pains in his head. For about two weeks he suffered excruciating pain, until death came as a gracious relief on Sunday morning.Mr.Barnd was born on a farm in Elk township on August 14, 1881. He came to Manchester when the family came here some twenty-five years ago, and has since made this city his home. During the years he has resided here he formed a wide circle of friends who grieve because of his death. He was an honest and industrious young man.On September 10, 1902, Mr. Barnd was united in marriage with Miss May Skiner of this city. On November 20th, of the same year, death entered his home and claimed his bride. His marriage to Miss Vernoica Nachtman took place at Dyersville on February 1906. To this union one daughter was born.While a resident of this city he was a devout member of St Mary's church, and gave in generous measure of his time and means towards furthering the interests of the church of his faith and belief.Funeral services were held from St. Mary's church on Tuesday morning at 9:00 o'clock, the services being conducted by Rev. Father T. J. Rooney. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery of this city.Mr. Barnd leaves to mourn his death the wife and one daughter, and two sisters, Mrs A. H. Cleveland and Mrs. Joe Harps of this city, and five brothers, Charles Barnd, August Barnd, Frank Barnd, Anthony Barnd, all of this city and Joe Barnd of Chicago.The bereaved relatives are extended the sympathy of their many friends in this community in the great sorrow that has come to them in the death of a devoted husband, father and brother.Among the relatives from away who were in Manchester on Tuesday to attend the funeral of Mr. Barnd were Joe Banrd of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nachtman, parents of Mrs. John Barnd, and Messrs. Joe, Frank, Peter, Henry, John and Harold Nachtman, all of Dyersville, August Nachtman, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. L. Nachtman, Waterloo; Mrs. Hannah Ulbrich, Potosi, Wisconsin; R. Ulbrich of LaCrosse, Wiisconsin; Mrs. A. R. Ulbrich of Dubuque; Misses Mae Burkett and Mae Doser of Potosi; Henry Doser of Potosi; Henry Winkler of Potosi; C. Smith and Miss Carrie Patzner of Potosi.
