Ardell Fern Peterson was born in Escanaba, Michigan on 18 Dec 1926. While she was raised in Escanaba, she spent a good deal of her time across Little Bay de Nocquet at her grandparents homes in Stonington. She attended Escanaba High School, from which she graduated in 1944. She then attended Cloverland Commercial College and received training as a bookkeeper.
After graduation from Cloverland, Ardell found employment in Green Bay, Wisconsin. It was there that she met her future husband, Henry Robert "Bob" Allen, in 1946. Bob and Ardell were married in Escanaba on the 26th of July 1947. The couple settled in Escanaba, where Bob first found employment with Northern Motor Rebuilders in Escanaba, as a truck driver.
Ardell gave birth to two children, Daniel Robert on 20 April 1948 and Deborah Jean on 8 September 1950. The family spent a good deal of time at her parent's cottage in Stonington and also spent frequent weekends at Bob's mother's house in Green Bay. Ardell was always eager to get back to her home in Escanaba and always was overjoyed to cross the bridge from Marinette, Wisconsin, into Menominee, Michigan. At that point, she knew she was only an hour away from home.
In 1974, Ardell was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Over time, she became increasingly handicapped with the disease, although it progressed much more slowly than in a lot of other people. However, the medications she took for the ever increasing pain she suffered eventually lead to the development of a cancer that claimed her life on 29 March 1995.
Ardell was a very kind and gentle person. In this way, she was very much like her father. She never had an unkind word for anyone. She was also a quietly religious person and took an active role in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. She had many friends and was well liked by all who knew her.
After her children left home, Ardell worked at Lakestate Industries, helping mentally handicapped adults learn how to work and be productive members of society. It was a job when loved and stayed with it until the MS forced her to retire.
One of Ardell's greatest joys in her life was the birth of her first grandchild. She was 63 and had quietly suffered for years, as her friends displayed the photos of their grandchildren. When her grandson came along, she took great pleasure in getting her turn to display photos!
Ardell touched the lives of many people and is sorely missed by all that knew her.
