Kathryn L. Altenburger, 92, died at 2:20 p.m. Nov. 27, 2008, at St. Rita's Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 11, 1916, in Putnam County to John C. and Mary Matilda (Miller) Eickholt, who preceded her in death. On June 24, 1939, she married Ralph J. Altenburger, who died June 28, 1996.

Mrs. Altenburger had been a beautician, a homemaker and a volunteer at Lima Canteen. She was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church, its Altar Rosary Society and was a member of the Home Demonstration Club. She was an avid worldwide traveler and a member of the Tri-Moraine Audubon Society.

Survivors include five children, Michael (Helen) Altenburger, of Lima, Thomas Altenburger, of Lima, Scott (Teri) Altenburger, of Bakersfield, Calif., JoAn (Larry) Smith, of Spencerville, and Linda (Jerry) Zickafoose, of Lima; nine grandchildren, Maria (John) Sambuco, Diana (Bradley) Sellers, Laura (BJ) Kline, Denise (Kevin) Buettner, Sarah (Matthew) Brown, Matthew (Lorelei) Zickafoose, Douglas Zickafoose, Kevin Altenburger and Emily Altenburger; and 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Roman (Margaret) Eickholt, of Cridersville, and Orville (Olivia) Eickholt, of Ottoville; two sisters: Agnes Ulrich, of Delphos, and Calista (Arnold) Miller, of Landeck; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Eickholt, of Lima, and Delores Eickholt, of Ottawa.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Vincent Eickholt; and a half-sister, Alvertice "Dolly" Friemoth.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Gerard Catholic Church. Father Joy Poonoly will officiate. Burial will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, where a parish Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday.
