"DOC" CLAY DIES
Elbert Terrel (Doc) Clay was born July 15, 1906 in Palo Pinto County, Texas. In 1918 he moved to Donley County, where he remained until the spring of 1934 when he moved to Cordell, Okla. where he resided until his death Feb. 1, 1936. Age 29 years 7 months 15 days.
He was married in 1934 to Miss Bonnie Craft at Cordell, Okla.
He leaves to mourn his going his wife, his father, three brothers and six sisters, all of whom were present at his death. His mother preceded him in death Jan. 8, 1918, also one brother and one sister.
His death did not come as such a shock but was after a long illness which he bore with all submission. He was conscious until the end, called his loved ones to his bedside one at a time, telling them he was going away to be with Jesus and loved ones, and wanted them to meet him there. Also how and by whom he wanted his funeral and bural services conducted.
"Doc" was a young man who having lived near Ring, Bray and McKnight for a goodly number of years had made for himself many friends here. He was upright, honorable and kind to all.
It was my privilege to know Doc a number of years. He was always gentle and kind and very considerate of others. So in the last hours he told his loved ones not to mourn his going, for all was well with him and it was far better for him to be with Jesus.
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Hedley, Sunday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. the Hodges Funeral Home of Memphis in charge. Rev M.E.Wells and Reb W.H.DeBord officiated. Internment was in the Clarendon Cemetery.
