MRS. J. L. SCHMITZ, FORMER JOLIET RESIDENT, DIES
Mrs. Nettie Schmitz, 61 years old, a former resident of Joliet, died yesterday at St. Mary's of Nazareth hospital, Chicago, following a five week's illness. Mrs. Schmitz moved to Chicago 15 years ago, prior to which she had lived in Joliet for 30 years. The dead woman is survived by her husband, John L., Chicago; fire daughters, Nettie, Ruth, May, Bessie and Alice; two sons, Frank and Thomas, and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the Trinity M. E. church, Ridgewood, with the Rev. S. M. Swaney officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

In April of 1930, Nettie was listed as a widow living at 4524 Lowell Avenue in the Jefferson Township of Chicago with one single daughter, two of her married daughters, two son-in-laws and one grandson. Nellie was 57, born in Iowa to parents born in Indiana. Her daughter Ruth was 29 and married to Gordon Pouliot (spelling of his last name hard to read). Gordon was 33 and had been born in Minnesota as had his parents. Gordon and Ruth had a son, 2 year old Gordon Jr. who had been born in Illinois. Nettie's daughter Betty was 23 and married to 40 year old Harold Rathborn or Rathburn. Harold had been born in South Dakota to parents born in England. The unmarried daughter was Virginia who was 25. (Census enumeration district 3, sheet 17B).
