Thomas Haldeman was an ordained rector with the Episcopalian Church, principally working in the Denver area of Colorado and on Long Island, New York. Thomas had been raised in the Episcopalian Church, his family of origin having attended Christ Church of Glendale, Hamilton Co., Ohio, which still exists today.

Thomas met his first wife, English-born Sylvia, in Denver and they moved to New York together. See Sylvia's memorial for more about her life and her family of origin. When Sylvia died late in their lives together, Thomas remarried to widow Fredrica Carlotta (Prentiss) Haneman.

Thomas's father, William "Willie" Jesse Haldeman, committed suicide in 1915. Later in 1915, Thomas's mother, Adeline "Ada" Sherman (Moulton) Haldeman, collapsed while she was at a shop with Thomas's brother John, and she died; newspapers reported that Ada had never recovered from her husband's suicide and attributed her death to a broken heart.
