Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery-East in Amarillo with the Rev. Rodger Johnson officiating. Arrangements are by Denton-Wood Funeral Home, 1001 N. Canal Street, Carlsbad, N.M.
Mrs. Ashford was born June 2, 1920, in Lamar County, Texas, to Curtis and Gladys Young O'Neal. She married Eulis J. Ashford on Dece. 21, 1935, in Cunningham, Texas, and they later moved to Amarillo. Helen was blessed to be a caregiver for numerous people throughout the years. She was a longtime member of the Northside United Pentecostal Church in Amarillo, where she led singing and played the piano. In 2006, Helen moved to Carlsbad, where she was a member of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2001; a great-granddaughter, Alycia Ashford; a brother, Lawrence O'Neal; four sisters, Betty Clark, Jo Archibald, Nina O'Neal and Alma Belle Cook; and two daughters-in-law, Sandy Ashford and Peggy Ashford.
Survivors include three sons, Gerald Ashford, Ray Ashford and wife Rose, all of Carlsbad, and Weldon Ashford of Amarillo; 8 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul O'Neal and wife, Juanita of Melborne, Ark.; and two sisters, Ruth Tucker of Garland, Texas, and June Williams of Hugo, Okla.
