After three weeks of suffering from an acute attack of Kidney trouble, George Johnson, for the past eleven years a well known and respected resident of Sleepy Eye, passed to his reward at an early hour Monday morning at his home in this city. Up until the time of his recent attack, Mr. Johnson had been enjoying good health apparently.
George Johnson was born October 14th, 1855, in Wisconsin, near the city of Waupaca. When a young man he came to Minnesota, settling in this section of the country. On Christmas Eve in 1879 he was united in marriage to Miss Sophia Porter at Redwood Falls, who with their twelve children still survive him. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson settled on a farm in the town of Eden, where they lived until eleven years ago when they removed to Sleepy Eye, where they have since made their home. The deceased was always looked upon with high respect among his townsmen of Sleepy Eye as a man of integrity, who put principle above money every time.
Besides his wife, the twelve children who survive the deceased are Mrs. Herman Neuman of Wabasso, Minn; Archie of Gilden, Mont; Isaac, Mrs. Chas. Dietz, Gertrude, Mrs. Peter Fischer, Loyal, Earl, Beatrice, Maud and Alice, all of Sleepy Eye. Three sisters also survive him, they are Mrs. Mel Tolman of Morgan; Mrs. Chas. Porter of Dunkirk, Mont; and Mrs. J. A. Johnson of Oregon.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Congregational church in Sleepy Eye, Rev. Hughes, officiating, and internment was made in the Home cemetery.
