Theis, Charles C., 87, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000. Service 10 a.m. Tuesday, Downing & Lahey Mortuary East. Mr. Theis was a native of Wichita, born on Aug. 21, 1913. He married Jackie Oliver, also a native of Wichita, in 1934, the same year he graduated from the University of Kansas. They were both in the first graduating class of North High School. He joined a Municipal Bond firm in 1934, started radio station KANS (NBC affiliate) in 1936 and managed his wheat and cattle ranch. In 1942, he started CPT-WTS Flying School. From 1944-1946 he was a Naval communications officer aboard APA 163 in the Pacific. In 1946, he became an independent oilman and lease broker and later became the owner of Broadway Mobile Homes. From 1969-1982, he was a stock broker. He loved golf, travel and playing gin rummy with friends at the Wichita Country Club, where he had been a member since 1929.
Mr. Theis was a 32nd-degree Mason and member of the Shrine-Midian Temple and a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He and his wife enjoyed extensive travels around the world. He was a very generous man and treated his family to numerous trips. Survivors: son, Charles William of Las Vegas; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie Lyn and Alan Ives of Overland Park; grandchildren and spouses, Nancy Ives (Tim Jensen) of Vancouver, Wash., Judith Jenson (Michael Jenson), Martha Fiegen (Terry Fiegen) all of Sioux Falls, S.D., Lee "Alexx" Theis of Las Vegas, Carrie Scott (Curtis Scott) of Wichita; great-grandchildren, Kristen Jenson, Heather Jenson both of Sioux Falls, S.D. Memorial has been established with Humane Society of Wichita, the first welcome home of his beloved dogs, "Nikki" and "Skooter." Wichita Eagle, October 23, 2000
