Obituary

Edwards Grubbs was born in Dearborn County, Indiana, December 10th, 1832 and represents one of the old families of that state.
His father, John M. Grubbs was also born there and so was his grandfather.
He was reared in the state where he was born and acquired a common school education. On September 10th, 1851 he was united in marriage to Miss Susan Brown.
In 1852 he rented a farm in Ohio, operating it for two years. In 1854 he removed to Iowa and in 1859 he went to Pikes Peak, Colorado to engage in mining business, but not finding it profitable he returned again to Iowa in July of the same year where he made his abode until 1860.
He engaged in farming again in Indiana until the year 1868 where he removed to Bates County, Missouri.
In the fall of 1869 he came to Woodson County, Kansas and homesteaded eighty acres on Cherry Creek.
He improved and tended his homestead for fourteen years, when he traded it for some timber land on the Neosho River bottom where he still owns a section of valuable farming land.
Unto Mr. and Mrs. Grubbs have been born seven children, namely: Bally G., who now lives in Shawnee, Oklahoma; Eliza, wife of J.D. Newcomb of Choctaw, Oklahoma; Ward Beecher of Cherokee, Kans.; Mrs. Pearl Jones, who died in Neosho Falls in 1901; Emma Stovall who died in Oklahoma in 1896, leaving five small children; Lusetta and Laura, who died in infancy.
He was passing his older days in pleasure for the earnest years of labor had crowned him with prosperity.
But on December 20th, 1907, death claimed his helpmate and companion making the world seem cruel to him. He began to decline and after seeking health by traveling several different states he finally gave up and passed away in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, July 22, 1908.
He leaves to mourn his loss two sons and a daughter, his grandchildren and a host of friends.
