"Amelia" was baptised "Rine Amalia Andersen", daughter of Anders Andersen and his wife Rine Andrine Martinsdatter of the Nedre Ruteig farm in the Våle district of Vestfold, Norway. Her Norwegian records were carefully preserved and are accessible through the Digital Archives of Norway. At the age of 19, on July 25, 1906, Amalia immigrated to the United States at Ellis Island on the Cunard ship "Carmania". She was to be met at Fort Maginnis, Montana by her older sister, Anette Andersen, who had immigrated to Fergus County just one year earlier. On November 22, 1908, Amalia married Jonas Olsen, a rancher who had immigrated to the States in 1896 from Stavanger, Norway. For several years the young couple lived near Amalia's sister Anette and husband Tom Iverson at Dovetail, Montana. The couple had five children: Ole, Agnes, Jonas, Arnold, and Rebecca. In 1932 they would buy their own ranch, originally called "The Rowley Place" located about 16 miles Southeast of Grass Range. Here they raised Hereford cattle and alfalfa hay and became well respected ranchers and were active in the Community life of Grass Range. Amalia died of cancer in her own bed at their ranch home when she was only 57 years of age.
