He had the following children with Ella: Thelma, Royal, Naomi, Henry (H.G.), Almera, Lucille, Felman, Nannie Frances, and Viola. He had Martha, Joseph, and Louis with Lottie. His sister, Lily Alderson Ragland, died in April 1974.
