He was born on April 3, 1929, in Stanley and was a son of the late Amos Carson and Leona Diane Price Mayes.
Mr. Mayes was a produce manager at the Stanley IGA, where he was employed for 30 years.
On Sept. 8, 1956, he married Shelley Rebecca Foster Mayes, who survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Jackie Michelle Aleshire of Stanley; a brother, Roy L. Mayes of Port Republic; a sister, Rena Craddock of Grottoes and two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd A., Eldon C. and James D. Mayes; and three sisters, Pauline comer, Eula Callison and Arbutus Mayes.
Memorial service held Sept. 2, 2006 at the Luray Kingdom Hall.
