Mrs. Leona Mayes, 72, a beloved citizen of Stanley, passed away at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, February 24th, at her home in Stanley. She was a devout member of the Alma Primitive Baptist Church. A daughter of the late David F. Price and Sarah C. Good Price, she was born in Page County on January 3, 1888. On December 28, 1904 she was united in marriage with Amos C. Mayes, who survives her. Also surviving are the following children: Floyd A. Mayes of Waynesboro, Va.; Mrs. Pauline Comer of Rileyville; Arbutus M. Mayes, Aaron V. Mayes and James D. Mayes, all of Stanley; Mrs. Eula May Collison of Richmond; Roy L. Mayes of Port Republic; Eldon C. Mayes of Douglass Kansas and Mrs. Rena E. Huffman of Grottoes, Va. Two sisters, Mrs. Elva Painter of Stanley and Mrs. Gladyth Blosser of Harrisonburg, also survive. Funeral services were conducted by Elder A.F. Sudduth and the Rev. O.L. Martin Saturday, February 27th at 2 p.m. in the Alma Primitive Baptist Church. Interment took place in the Stanley Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery.
