Our lovely and beloved sweet mother, sister and grandmother, Josephine Christensen Durfee, 87, of Orem, Utah, and a former resident of Heyburn, Idaho, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at her home. She was born January 10, 1914, in Hyde Park, Utah, the daughter of Joseph and Henrietta Lund Christensen. She had two brothers and four sisters. She married Kenneth Ivan Durfee June 10, 1936, in the Logan Temple. He died July 5, 1996. She received her early education in Heyburn and attended the Albion Normal School, Albion, Idaho, and graduated from Idaho State University, Pocatello, Idaho. She was an elementary school teacher in the Minidoka County School District, Idaho. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holding many callings. She and her husband and youngest daughter served an LDS building mission in Grimsby, England, from 1965 to 1966. In later years she was a temple worker in the Provo Temple. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and later with her children. She delighted in seeing the beautiful scenery of this world and loved flowers. She created many beautiful quilts and liked doing handwork. She was a friend to many and loved by all.

She is survived by one son and five daughters; Dwayne (Juanita) Durfee, Riverdale, Utah; LaDean (C. Fred) Dayley, Heyburn, Idaho; Janeal (Jerry) Langton, Taylorsville, Utah; Darlene (Richard) Gardner, Orem, Utah; Arlene (Jan) Schut, Sandy, Utah; Venita (Arn) Gatrell, Salt Lake City, Utah; 38 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren which she dearly loved. She is also survived by one sister and one brother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, one brother and one grandson, Kenneth D. Dayley. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 16, 2001, at 12 noon in the Timpview Fifth Ward Chapel, 865 West 1000 North, Orem, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, and at the Church on Monday morning from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to service. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
