William B. Halter, 82, of Rolling Prairie, passed away peacefully at 3:45 p.m., Friday, September 2, 2011 at IU Health La Porte Hospital.
He was born August 11, 1929 in La Porte, IN to Herschel O. and Carrie Julia (Stoner) Halter.
Mr. Halter served his country honorably in the US Army during Korea. William owned and operated Rolling Builders for 40 years as a brick mason until his retirement in June, 1992. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, La Porte and the American Legion, New Carlisle. William loved gardening and the outdoors.
On January 6, 1951 in La Porte, he married Barbara A. Lidgard who survives.
Also surviving are three children, Randy L. Halter of Rolling Prairie, Jeffery (Cathy) Halter of North Liberty and Tammy (Kevin) Smith of Rolling Prairie; five grandchildren; one brother, Clifford (Leah) Halter and one brother-in-law, Duane Williamson, both of Rolling Prairie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Donna Williamson and one brother, Dale Halter.
A private graveside service will be held at Rolling Prairie Cemetery. There will be no visitation and cremation will take place. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Road, La Porte is caring for the arrangements.
