Arthur was born in McCord, Wisconsin, per his WWII Draft Registration card. He first married Martha Etta Rozell prior to 1925 when their first child was born. They had 3 known children. Martha sadly passed away in 1930. Arthur then married Edna Muriel MacDonald in 1934.

The family surname is seen under various spellings over the years and may have been previously spelled "Yonne" and before that "Dionne." Arthur's father, Osiber, is seen in the 1871 Census of Canada named as "Ausuber Yon" living in Medonte, Simcoe North, Ontario with his parents, Gregoire (Gregory) Yon and Marguerite (Margaret) Swale, and three siblings. The family indicated they were of French origin.

Gregoire's 1861 marriage record reflects that he was born in 1839 in Riviere du Loup, Quebec, Canada and that his parents were Louis Yonne and Thersile Beauchamp. Marguerite (Margaret) was listed as 16 years old and her parents were transcribed as Thomas Swills (headstone reads "Swale" and he was born in England) and Martine L.
