Willie H. Austin, 77, died Thursday [Sept. 21, 1961] in Veterans Hospital, Kecoughtan, Va., after and illness of 2 years.
A native of Hatteras, he lived in Oriental 13 years. He was a retired Coast Guardsman, having served 30 years.
His late parents were Benjamin and Mrs. Margaret Smith Austin.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Oriental and Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge and the American Legion there.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lula Ballance Austin; one daughter, Mrs. Blaine Burrus of Elizabeth City; one son, Floyd Austin of Oriental; one sister, Mrs. Rosa Gaskins of Elizabeth City; one brother, Benjamin Austin of Hatteras; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was conducted in Hatteras Methodist Church on Saturday.
