Dr. Wilcox settled in Perry, FL in 1858. He was the first physician to locate in Taylor County. According to records, Dr. Wilcox served as a contract surgeon with the U.S. Army during the latter part of the Civil War in the Key West area. He returned to Taylor County where he lived and served as a physician until his death in 1887.

Dr. Wilcox is buried with his third wife, Miley Delilah Humphrey Wilcox. He was married previously to Virginia A. Swift (died Aug 7, 1853 in Stone Mountain, GA) and Elsie Loduskey Parramore (died Nov 20, 1862 in Thomasville, GA).

Dr. Wilcox fathered 11 children:

John Thomas Wilcox Sr. (with 1st wife Virginia Swift).

Mary Frances and Elsie (Alcy?) Loduski Wilcox (with 2nd wife Alcy Ann Parramore)

Moulton, Annie, Leilah, Ella V, Ida, William Martin, Emma Glyn and Boss Hampton Wilcox (with 3rd wife, Miley Delilah Humphrey).

On October 24, 1976, a portrait of Dr. Wilcox was presented to Doctor's Memorial Hospital in Perry, FL, dedicated to his service to Taylor County.

Dr. Wilcox settled in Perry, FL in 1858. He was the first physician to locate in Taylor County.
