Mrs. Mary Wilcox died last Sunday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Chance, at Habersham. Mrs Wilcox was, perhaps the oldest resident of burke county at the time of her death. She was born in Richmand county October 1802. For a number of years she lived with her grandson, Mr. John T. Wilcox, of Waynesboro, moving to Habersham about six months ago. Her death was very sudden. She was feeling unusually well during the day. About dusk she complained of severe pains in her chest, and in 30 minutes she passed away, being conscious to the last. The deceased had been a member of the Methodist church since 1822. The funeral took place Tuesday from Habersham church. Rev. W. F. Smith, officiating, assisted by Rev. C. E. Boland. Mrs. Wilcox was the grandmother of Messrs. John T. and Sam Wilcox of this place.
