Charlotte Catherine Clopper Eccard, 91, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at Renaissance Gardens at Riderwood, Silver Spring, Md. The cause of death was complications from a femur fracture.

Mrs. Eccard was born and raised in Clear Spring, Md., the daughter of Charles Finley and Lydia Virginia Clopper, and sister of J. Allen Clopper, C. Richard Clopper, Dorothy Beall and Jeanne Shupp, all of whom pre-deceased her.

She moved to Baltimore in 1939 and was the first student to graduate from the University of Maryland School of X-Ray. She worked as an X-ray technician in the Baltimore-Washington area for approximately 30 years. She and her husband, Edward S. Eccard, married in 1946 and moved to the Lewisdale area in Hyattsville, Md., in 1947, where they were both employed as X-ray technicians. They moved from Lewisdale to Buck Lodge in Adelphi, Md. in 1956, and back to Lewisdale in 1962. In 1993, Mrs. Eccard, a widow since 1990, moved to Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville, Md., where she lived until her move to Riderwood in 2005. She was a longtime member of University United Methodist Church in College Park, Md., Emory Grove Association of Baltimore and, most recently, Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Beltsville, Md.


She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Pat Mellott, of Beltsville; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Cheryl Eccard, of Edgewater, Md.; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at Donald V. Borgwardt Funeral Home, 4400 Powder Mill Road, Beltsville, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 11416 Cedar Lane, Beltsville, on Monday, Sept. 5 at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Mount Olive United Methodist Cemetery, Randallstown, Md. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emory Grove Association of Baltimore, P.O. Box 3656, Glyndon, MD 21071.
