Native of Spencer Dies Saturday Following a Four Wees Illness of Heart Trouble
__________________________________________________________________

Howard McCormick, 57 years old, a native of Spencer and former resident here, died at his home in Martinsville Saturday evening at 7:10, following a four weeks illness of heart trouble. It will be recalled that his mother died about four weeks ago and he took to his bed following the funeral.

He was born in Spencer October 16, 1886, a son of John and Sarah Isabel McCormick. He married the former Bertha Mull and they made their home in Spencer until about 14 years ago, when they moved to Martinsville to live. At that time of his death he was serving on the police force.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Bertha; one son, Charles of Niagara Falls; two daughters, Mrs. Frances Pryor and Mrs. Enola Beasley, both of Martinsville. Also brothers and sisters, Ben, of Linden; Delbert of Chicago; Mrs. Nellie Baker; Mrs. Anna Knott, of Lafayette; Mrs. Rosie Gerkin of Indianapolis; and Mrs. Elizabeth Wood.

Immediately following his death West & Son were notified and the body was brought to Spencer, where it was prepared for burial. The body was returned to the home Sunday and funeral rites were held at the First Baptist Church of Martinsville, Tuesday afternoon, in charge of Rev. George W. Adams.

Burial was made at Spencer in Riverside Cemetery Tuesday afternoon. The Red Man Lodge of Spencer, of which he was a member, gave their ritualistic service at the graveside.

Mr. McCormick had a host of friends in Spencer who were shocked Saturday to hear of his untimely death. He visited in Spencer many times throughout the years and he always felt that this was his home.

While the McCormick family lived in Spencer they were affiliated with the Baptist Church and were valued members.
