Excerpt from the San Francisco Chronicle, March 27, 1928, Page 1:
"Otto Hillefeld, 50, former German army officer and proprietor of the Marshal Field Rubber Company, ... was found dead yesterday in ... the Olympic Club.
Hillefeld made his home in the Devonshire district at San Carlos. His wife, Mrs. Etta H. Hillefeld, who was president of the Parent-Teacher Association there, was found dead in bed last October. Since that time ... Hillefeld had been moody. Two months ago his health began to fail and he returned from a resort only a week ago.
He leaves three daughters, Henrietta, 11, Elizabeth, 12, and Marie Louise, 13, who live at the San Carlos home.
