Seldon Vance "Van" Brown

Seldon Vance "Van" Brown, 71, of Decatur, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 26, 2011.

Born in Fort Madison, Iowa, he had been a resident of Meigs County since 1979. He sold insurance and wrote policies for the residents of Meigs County through 2008, as well as working at Auto Zone and owning Brown's Down Home Restaurant in Decatur.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Ann; two sisters, Karen Tuttle and Phyllis Badgeley; one brother, Roger Brown; and two grandchildren, Lisa and Logan Brown.

He is survived by a large and loving family including his wife, Janice Louise; seven sons, Kevin, Bob and Bill Brown, Jonathan, Stephen and Christopher Rathbun and Lee Rathbun and his wife, Elissa; two daughters, Bethene Perkins and her husband, Jimmy, and Rachel Whaley and her husband, Billy; 15 grandchildren with one on the way; 12 great-grandchildren who will miss him greatly; three brothers, Wesley Brown and his wife, Violet, George Brown, and Stephen Brown and his wife, Jenny; and three sisters, Elizabeth Cordova, Judy Rotchford and her husband, Herb, and Debbie Armstrong and her husband, Bruce.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Rathbun, Lee Rathbun, Stephen Rathbun, Chris Rathbun, Billy Whaley and Zachary Brown.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Bowers Funeral Home of Decatur is in charge of arrangements.
