Dr. Charles Hartner, 90, longtime Norfolk osteopathic physician, memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov.29, at Norfolk with burial in New Lutheran cemetery. He died Nov. 26 at Norfolk. He was born June 21, 1889 at Riley, Kansas to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hartner. He was married on April 21, 1915 to Alma Wemhoff at Clay Center, Kansas. She died on March 9, 1975. "At age 26, he began a general practice in Madison, making calls to home in town and in the country. He recalled the flu epidemic that struck the Madison area in 1918. After Dr. Hartner had recovered , he spent the rest of the winter treating other victims." "His first 30 years of practice wa in Madison before coming to Norfolk in 1945. Dr. Hartner retired in September 1974." He was a 1915 graduate of the American School of Oseology in Kirksville, Missouri. "A feature story that appeared in The Daily News in September of 1974 noted that Dr. Hartner had bowled and golfed for more than 50 years an was an avid wood craftsman." He was survived by 1 daughter Mrs. Helen Noyes at Norfolk, 1 son Jerry at Jackson, Wyoming; 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers: Herman at Madison, Ernest at Clinton, Missouri; 1 sister Mrs. William {Minnie} Kahre at Clay Center, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 1 son, 4 brothers, 2 sisters.
