Louisa was the youngest of 11 children. She was born and raised in Saginaw County, near Hemlock, MI. She moved to Antrum Co., w/ her family on Eddie School Road, until moving to Wheeler, MI. Shortly after that she met Milo Wellington Bradford and was married May 16, 1893 in Hemlock, MI, Saginaw Co. In 1894 she graduated from Saginaw Bay School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. They rented/lived in Milo's parents home and she gave birth to Lydia Anne Bradford in September of 1894. When Lydia was 2 yrs and 7 mos, she died from complications of Croup and TB. In 1898 she gave birth to Francis Cornelius Bradford, 1899 Lillian May was born and in 1901, shortly after her husband's death, she gave birth to Robert Milo Bradford.

After the birth of Robert Milo and the death of her husband, her inlaws, Marcus and Sarah Bradford, removed her and her children from their home, leaving her homeless with three small children and no husband. She moved into a chicken coup in a neighbor's back yard and begin to raise her family, providing for them by sewing and baking for local farmers...one of them a Black Smith, Alonzo Yates, who later became her husband. They first moved to Pellston, MI, where she gave birth to Olive Yates, who died a year later of Pneumonia...then moved to Traverse City, MI, in 1907, where they built a home at 803 Cass Road, and raised their family. Shortly after moving to Traverse City, they had a son, Alonzo Edward Yates....who died probably of SIDS at 2 weeks of age and is buried outside the family home at 803 Cass Road.

After her husband Alonzo died in March of 1942, Louisa and her daughter, Lillian stayed at the family home until her death in 1965. Louisa was my great grandmother. :o)
