We mourn, in silence, the passing of Dale M. Fenton, our father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and uncle on April 27, 2004, in Salt Lake City.
Dale was born March 17, 1919, in Rupert, Idaho, to Joseph LeRoy and Ruth Hazel Miller Fenton. He grew up on the family farm in the Rupert area and attended the Rupert schools. While attending high school, Dale drove a school bus for $18 a month. He married Thelma Randolph on Feb. 28, 1940. They were divorced 39 years later.
During World War II, Dale fought in the Pacific Theater as an Army construction engineer and participated in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Following the war, he worked for the Union Pacific railroad in Pocatello and Salt Lake City until his retirement. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Dale is survived by four daughters, Ruth Fox of West Valley City, Utah, Jean Fox of Stockton, Calif., Beckie Eveler of Magna, Utah, and Mary (John) Atkin of West Jordan, Utah; two sons, Frank of Glendale Heights, Ill., and Randy of Fallon, Nev.; as well as 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and ex-wife, Thelma R. Fenton. He is also survived by eight brothers and sisters, Ila Mayes Rose and James (Dona Rose) Fenton of Burley, Idaho, Josephine (Keith) MacKenzie of Clackamas, Ore., Donna Walker, Virgil (Bonnie) Fenton and Richard (Virginia) Fenton all of Rupert, Idaho; Gary (Myrna) Fenton of Ogden, Utah, and Lorie (Doug) Bolander of Boise, Idaho; sister-in-law, Pat Fenton of Paul, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Velma; youngest brother, Ronald; and two sons-in-law.
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference."
Arrangements and interment were under the direction of Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary and Cemetery in Sandy, Utah. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
