Harold L. Benham, 87, Bedford, died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday at StoneBridge Health Campus.

He was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Oolitic, the son of Henry and Cora Lee (Wardrip) Benham. He married Eileen Maynard on June 23, 1945, in Bedford, Mass.

He was a nuclear physicist at Crane.

He was a graduate of Oolitic High School and a graduate of Indiana University. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church; the U.S. Marine Corps; and the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen Benham of Bedford; three sons, William (Mary Pat) Benham of Cincinnati, Ohio, Alan Benham of Bedford, and Thomas (Debbie) Benham of Bedford; four daughters, Elaine (Roger) Wykoff of Bedford, Maureen Benham of Colorado, Nancy (James) Goode of Missouri, and Andrea (Charles) Parker of Mitchell; 24 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Vera Poole of Oolitic, and June (Jack) McGinnis of Illinois.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene and Ruth; five brothers, Carl, Lawrence, William, James and Russell.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Rick Eldred officiating. Burial will be in Hopkins Cemetery in Needmore.

Friends may call from noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday with the rosary prayed at 4:30 p.m.
