Walter William Smith, 80, died Aug. 1 at home.
He was a native of Liberty County and a resident of Oatland Island for many years, before moving to Midway 20 years ago after his retirement as an engineer with the Seaboard Coastline Railroad. He was a former member of Thunderbolt Baptist Church and a member of Midway United Methodist Church. He was a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Acacia Lodge No. 452, F.andA.M. and the Alee Shrine Temple. He was a member of the Railroad Engineers Association.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Mariodean Smith of Midway; a son, Tyrone H. Smith of Midway; two daughters, Anne Smith Shuman of Atlanta and Kristina Smith of Midway; a sister, Lucille Bourne of Midway; a brother, Henry C. Smith of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Meliza Smith of Midway, Shannon S. Martin and Angela S. Hutson, both of Atlanta, and Myrna Malcolm of Clay Center, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. Monday at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11 a.m. Tuesday in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
