Leonard J. Wedman, son of Joseph Michael and Dorothy Bell (Clements) Wedman, was born on December 20, 1927 in family home two miles north of Danville, Kansas. He grew up and attended St. Rose Academy at Danville and graduated from the Harper High School with the class of 1945.
After graduation, Leonard worked at Adamson Oil, Harper, in the parts department. Later he worked at the Capitol in Topeka as the Governor's page. He then worked for the state and was drafted into the United States Army. After his honorable discharge in 1953, he returned to Danville, where he farmed and enjoyed raising Registered Hereford cattle with his brothers.
On June 23, 1956 Leonard was united in marriage to Charlotte Wohlschlegel at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Harper and to this union seven children were born: Stan, Jeff, Sharon Kay, Brad, Jayne, Wesley, and Brock.
Leonard was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Danville, of the St. Joan of Arc Parish Community and also belonged to the Jeff Long American Legion Post #104 in Harper.
Leonard enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with his family.
He passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2011 in the Harper Hospital at the age of eighty three.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Wesley Joseph Wedman, who passed away December 17, 1966.
Leonard will be deeply missed by his wife of fifty-five years, Charlotte "Blondie" Wedman of the home near Danville; children: Stan Wedman and wife Marla, also of Danville; Jeff Wedman and wife Jana of Claremore, Oklahoma; Sharon Kay Wuthnow and husband Danny of Manchester, Kansas; Brad Wedman of Wellington, Kansas; Jayne Watters and husband Aaron of Arkansas City, Kansas; Brock Wedman and wife Patricia of Wichita, Kansas; brothers: Tom Wedman and wife Georgia of Harper, Kansas and Roger Wedman and wife Deloris of Danville; sisters: Margaret Wedman of Littleton, Colorado and Marilyn Mackey and husband Alan of Wichita, Kansas; twenty one grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; other relatives and many, many friends.
Recitation of the Rosary was held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2011, both at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Danville, of the St. Joan of Arc Parish Community with Father Michael Peltzer officiating. Lectors were David and Carla Wedman and altar servers were Colton Watters and Dawson Wuthnow. Gift bearers were Tom Wedman, Margaret Wedman and Marilyn Mackey. Musical selections were "How Great Thou Art", "Amazing Grace," "Last Dance," "Here I Am, Lord," "Prayer Of St. Francis," and "Song Of Farewell." The cantor was Jeff Jelinek and Kay Troyer served as organist. Ushers were Shaneese Wedman, Jennilee Wedman and Chelsey Bollman. Honorary casket bearers were Nathan Wuthnow, Quinton Wuthnow, Ryan Wuthnow, Taylor Wuthnow, Tyler Wedman and Scott Wedman. Casket bearers were Colby Watters, Brandon, Wuthnow, Wesley Wedman, Carson Wedman, Bill Williams and Denny Winters. Military rites were by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Private family inurnment was held at a later date in the Fairview Cemetery, Danville, Kansas
