Buried March 2, 1923.

Son of James Matthew Lowrey and Mary Jane Cole.

Obituary submitted by the Syracuse correspondent for publication in the Versailles Leader, Versailles, Missouri:

"Milton Lowrey died at his home here at 7 o'clock Thursday morning March 1st. His death was the result of injuries received in an accident which occurred eight days ago or on February 21st to be exact when the wagon in which he was riding was struck by fast mail train No. 11 at the Albin Crossing 1/4 mile west of here. He had been hauling fodder that day and going from home to the field for another load traveling west. At the Albin Crossing he crossed the railroad track just in front of the fast moving westbound No. 11 mail train. From some cause or other he did not seem to see or hear the approaching train but had got almost across the track. The engine of the train smashed into the rear end of his wagon, breaking up the rear wheels and throwing the wagon some distance. Mr. Lowrey was thrown quite a little distance but did not receive any broken bones, and was not thought to be fatally injured at the time. However, he was taken home and put to bed and his condition grew steadily worse until he died Thursday morning.

Milton Lowrey was born near Bell Air, Cooper county, Mo., April 14, 1850. He spent practically all of his life in Cooper and Morgan counties. While yet a young man he professed faith in Christ and united with the Mt. Nebo Baptist church in Cooper county. And he demonstrated his faith in the lowly Nazarene by living a clean Christian life of obedience such as few men can lay claim to.

He was united in marriage to Miss Monema Robinson [sic] October 5, 1871. To this union was born three daughters, all of whom with their mother survive him. They are Mrs. W. D. Agee, Mrs. A. E. Lewis and Mrs. Belle Martin, all living at Sedalia, Mo. He is also survived by two brothers, living here in Syracuse, Frank and William Lowrey. Rev. Edward James, of Holden, Mo., pastor of the church here, of which the deceased was a member preached the funeral service at the Baptist church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in the Syracuse cemetery.

Uncle Mick, as the deceased was generally known by many of his friends was well known in this community and he was quite generally loved and respected, because of his genial disposition and his sterling honesty and trustworthiness, by his hundreds of friends.

The number of people who were present at his funeral constituted the largest assemblage of people seen in Syracuse for many years, a testimony of the esteem in which he was held by the people who knew him."
