JOAN SANDOVAL GONZALES, 63, longtime Deming resident, passed away Friday, August 19, 2011 at Mountain View Hospital in Las Cruces.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 5 PM with a Prayer Vigil and Rosary to follow at 6 PM at Baca's Funeral Chapel. The Funeral Mass is set for 10 AM, Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at St. Ann's Catholic Church with Fr. Enrique López-Escalera officiating. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Baca's Mimbres Crematory and inurnment will immediately follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Deming.
Joan was born on July 19, 1948 in Santa Rita to Jessie Ordonez and Jose Sandoval. She lived the first half of her life in Santa Rita and later moved to Deming after marrying Lorenzo G. Gonzales. She was studying to become a nurse and once her mom became ill she left school to take care of her, but Joan was still able to attain her certificate as a nurse's assistant. She was also a communicant at St. Ann's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her loving husband, Lorenzo; a daughter, Margaret (Valentin) Fuentes of Deming; a sister, Ruth Garcia of Bayard; four grandchildren, Malena, Albez and Fernanda Rubio and Pedro Alberto Ramirez; nieces and nephews, Destiny, Rudy Jr. and Jessie Mesa, Jessica (Richard), Susan (Ronald), Lisa (David) and Ernest (Mellissa); great-nieces and nephews, Richard Jr., Arisa, Rodney, Sam, Aubree, Auree, Breanda, Genean, Makayla, Ernie, Victoria and Matt.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Roxanne Sanchez.
