The seventh of ten children born to John Henry Newman and Josephine Harmon Newman, in Shelton, Idaho, unto goodly parents. She grew up a faithful daughter in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Married to William Haywood Westwood on November 7, 1934. He was a widower with three young children. They added three more children. He died April 5, 1941. She raised their six children and worked for the S.L.C. Post Office for about twenty-eight years.
Ruth also enjoyed working at the Salt Lake LDS Temple for about thirty years. She was ninety-nine years old when she was released. Ruth bowled in leagues until she was ninety-nine years old.
She loved her garden. She always had plenty of fruits and vegetables and flowers to share with family and friends.
Ruth traveled extensively after retirement, enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, knitting, etc. She especially enjoyed doing things with her family.
She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Wasatch Camp for thirty-eight years. She loved her DUP sisters.
Ruth wanted to stay until the millennium, but our loving Heavenly Father said 105 years was enough and she was wanted up home with Him and Jesus Christ our Savior, and with her husband, her parents, her brothers John, Elmer, Rulon, Melvin, sisters Emily, Mitilda, Flora Belle, Naomi, and Verla, her three step-children, Dale, Lucile Weatherbee (Carl), and Ralph, her granddaughters, Linda Weatherbee, and Shauna Angle. Survived by three of her children, Richard N. Westwood, Carol W. (Arnold) Angle, and JoAnn W. Johnson, daughter-in-law, Shirley Westwood, twenty-four grandchildren about forty-five great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren.
We would like to thank those at 'Our House' Assisted Living for their love and care the past year and IHC Hospice for their love and help during her final days.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Hillcrest Fifth Ward Chapel, 915 East 9045 South, on Saturday, August 27, 2011.
