Obituary - Amherst Bee

John Brown of East Amherst passed to the Home beyond on Friday, April 10, 1925. At the ripe old age of 88 years, his well-spent life came to a close. He was born in Amherst and, having always lived in this section, will be missed where he was a familiar figure so many years.
In the Civil War, he heard his country's call and enlisted January 6, 1862. He was granted an honorable discharge on January 23, 1863, on account of disability.
His death is mourned by his wife, Phillipena (nee Yung), five daughters and two sons, Mrs. Edward Blarr, Mrs. Frank Lang, Mrs. Charles Weatherbee and Katherine, Anna, John and Joseph Brown, also ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral services were held Monday morning at 8:30 o'clock at the family residence and at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's church, Swormville, with Rev. Fr. Schubert officiating. Six grandsons, Raymond, Alvin and Joseph Blarr, Chester Beyer and Walter and Henry Lang, acted as bearers, and Antionette Blarr, also a grandchild, acted as flower bearer. Interment was made in the Swormville Catholic cemetery.
