One of Scott county's older pioneer ladies, Mrs. Sophie Stocker, 95, died early Friday morning at New Prague Memorial Hospital.
Born May 14, 1864, in Helena Township, she was the daughter of Elizabeth and Herman Dols. She spent her entire life in Scott county, attending school in Helena and the St. John school in Jordan.
On February 15, 1881, she was married to William Stocker at St. John's church here. After renting a farm the first year or two after their marriage, they bought a farm in Sand Creek, now known as the Stocker Bros., where they spent most of their lives. Mr. Stocker died in 1922.
Enjoying a long useful life, she was a member of St. Joseph's church, the Christian Mother's Society and the Third Order.
Surviving are ten children: five sons, Alphonse, Lawrence and Philip of Jordan, Joe of Le Center and Edward; five daughters, Mrs. Mary Steinhoff and Mrs. Florian Karl of Jordan, Mrs. Tony Lambrecht, Sr. of New Prague, Mrs. Alfred Geis of Shakopee and Mrs. Louis Dorenkamper of Ivanhoe; 43 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren. Three children preceded her in death.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's church with Fr. Patrick Curtis, O.F.M. officiating. The St. Joe choir sang, accompanied by Connie Hennes at the organ,
Pallbearers were Louie Steinhoff and Larry Geis of Shakopee, Floyd Stocker of Amarillo, Texas, Melvin Stocker of New Prague, Melvin Lambrecht of Ivanhoe, and Hilary Stocker of Le Center, all grandchildren. Interment was in St. Joseph's cemetery.
