Mildred Marie Smith, 89, of Assumption died August 19, 2011 (9:00 p.m.) in Fair Havens Christian Home, Decatur.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 25, 2011 in Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption with Pastors Darren Morrow and David Beerbower officiating.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday also in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Fair Havens Christian Home or donor's choice.
Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Assumption, Illinois.
Mildred was born March 5, 1922 in Lawrence County, Tennessee, the daughter of Evans and Beulah (Houser) Crews. She married Marvin William Smith on January 8, 1938 in Florence, Alabama. He preceded her in death on August 6, 1997.
Mildred was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of God. She was a self taught seamstress and created custom draperies. She was also an avid acoustic guitar player and was blessed with a beautiful alto voice. Mildred enjoyed being a homemaker and her family was her life. She was the closest thing to an angel that her children ever knew; she was truly a blessing from God.
Surviving are her son Dennis, and wife Yvonne Smith of Assumption; daughters Rachel Clasen of Eureka, KS, Shirley, and husband Bob Stelbrink of Clinton, IL; sisters Nona Guthrie of Huntsville, AL, Ruth, and husband James Pilkenton of Lawrenceburg, TN, Polly Chaffin of Florida, Frances Shay of Lawrenceburg, TN, Bonnie Joan Cryer of Yuba City, CA, 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her husband, parents and three sisters.
