Eliza E. (J) Hiller called to Death, April 30, 1934.
Death claimed one of Lafayette's oldest residents, Tuesday morning at 11:30 o'clock, when Mrs Eliza Ewry-Hiller, widow of William Douglas Hiller, passed away in her eight-ninth year. She was a life-long resident of this city and the descendant of a family that came to Lafayette from Ohio in 1829. Mrs. Hiller resided at 34 North Twenty-sixth street and the death was the result of injuries received several weeks ago in a fall. Mrs. Hiller was the last of a family of nine children. The daughter of John and Mary Ewry she was born in this city April 20, 1845, and on November 11, 1873, she married Mr. Hiller who was for many years associated with the Curtis and Sons Wholesale house. The family home was for many years on North Fourth street opposite Central Fire station. She was a life-long member of Central Presbyterian church. A son, William Ray Hiller of this city and a daughter, Florence, Mrs. E. E. Hamilton of New Peipzig, N. D., survive, also a grandson and two great-grand-children. Mr. Hiler died in 1903. The remains were removed to the Rogers and Smith funeral home and the funeral will be held at the home of W. Ray Hiller, 1420 South Fourteenth street, the time to be announced later. Burial in Springvale cemetery will be private.
