Lavonne "LeVon" Whitis Poynter, 80 years of age, of Eubank, Kentucky, gently departed this life on Thursday, August 18th, 2011 at the Somerset Nursing and Rehab Center in Somerset, Kentucky.
LeVon was born in Eubank, Kentucky on February 22nd, 1931, daughter of the late Menifee Whitis and Lillie Mae Harper Whitis. She was a farmer, homemaker and a devoted and loving mother to her children. She was a member of Eden Baptist Church.
LeVon was survived by three sons, Marion (and Donna) Poynter, Lee Poynter, and Dale (and Gidget) Poynter; four daughters, Shirley (and Junior) Roberts, Hazel (and Wendell) Goff, Kathy Sue Lovely, and Kay Poynter; four brothers, Everett Lee Whitis, Ellis Whitis, Wayne Whitis, and Junior "Junie" Alvin Whitis; four sisters, Jessie Poynter, Evelene Phelps, JoAnn New, and Betty Lou Weatherford; thirteen grandchildren; three special grandchildren; twenty eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends who mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer Bruce Poynter, who departed this life on June 8th, 2003; her parents, Menifee Whitis, who departed this life on June 6th, 1974 and Lilly Mae Whitis, who departed this life on March 18th, 1998; four brothers, Raymond Fee Whitis, who departed this life on September 3rd, 1944, Audie Wilson "Slim" Whitis, who departed this life on April 16th, 2002, Emmitt Denton Whitis, who departed this life on March 5th, 2007, and Arnold "Bruce" Whitis, who departed this life on November 9th, 1999; and one sister, Ester Gertrude "Gertie" Sims, who departed this life on April 1st, 1992.
Visitations were held after 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20th, 2011 at the Morris & Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 21st, 2011 in the Chapel of the Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Delmer Whitter officiating.
Burial followed in the Eden Cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky.
